He was the youngest of a litter of five, but grew faster than his brothers and sisters. Along with being the largest of his parents' offspring he was also the most stubborn, and would rather do things his own way than obey commands. He stayed on the sidelines while his siblings were trained to herd cattle on his owner's farm. It wasn't something that appealed to him to do. His siblings eventually sold to new owners while he hid away in the barn. [break][break] Expecting that he was ill, his owner took him to the vet. He was diagnosed with nothing more than canine anxiety. He got loose from his carrier (which had not been latched shut properly) as his human left the building and the staff of the veterinarian office didn't find him until the next day. Within that short time he had become extremely fascinated in what went on in those white rooms, discovering what most dogs were too frightened to notice; this place wasn't the devil. They helped animals here. This opened up Coy's mind to possibilities he'd never really considered before. He could help too. If only he could find out how..[break][break][break]he opens his eyes[break][break] A month later, sometime around Christmas, his owners had visitors. They brought their sweet little girl with them, who was extremely kind to Coy. Her name was Jenny and she was five years old, as she had explained over and over upon first walking in the door. Around when it was time for the children in the household to unwrap their presents, Coy noticed an odd scent lingering around Jenny. It was a dangerous scent. He didn't know how he knew it was dangerous, but he did. The husky began to bark. He paced from the little girl to the staircase and back again, over and over and over. It took a while, but Jenny's mother eventually caught on. The last time Coy ever saw Jenny again was a year later, when he was taken for a drive to a hospital. She was laying in bed, bald and very weak. He was allowed to stay with her for about an hour. She hugged and kissed him and stroked his soft fur, and he simply laid there and allowed her to do so. The day after that, it was announced that she had died of cancer. [break][break] It was proclaimed among the humans that Coy had a very talented nose. He was taken many times to visit humans and even some horses and dogs. He became more and more skilled at sniffing out diseases and making a scene to let everyone know. His owners and parents were extremely proud and he was quite proud of himself. This job of his made him feel like he had worth. He had already saved a couple lives and he felt important but still not entirely satisfied with his own life.[break][break][break]he finds love.. and loses it[break][break] One fine summer day the handsome young husky (now two human years old to be precise) took a walk down to the park where he found himself drawn to a beautiful and spirited young collie. He brought up the nerve to say hello and they introduced themselves to one another. Her name was Honey and it suited her so well. Coy found himself meeting her there regularly. At one point she asked if he wanted to get lost with her. His answer pleased her. They went down a dirt path to a clearing where they splashed in the cool water together and got a little too close to one another. Honey got knocked up with Coy's pups.[break][break] The two of them kept the pregnancy a secret for as long as they could but once their two daughters popped out looking part husky it was all over. The only huskies allowed to wander in the area were Coy and his father, and his father had been neutered a couple years back. The blame was on Coy. Instead of getting Honey surgery to prevent another litter, her owners simply locked her and her pups away in a dog run in the yard, secured by a high chain-link fence with a lock on it. Coy got out and went to visit her sometimes late at night but her mood was always sour and she never wanted to do anything but argue. This broke his heart. He knew what he had to do, and so he let go of the relationship as soon as possible, telling himself that he was gonna put the past behind him and start fresh.[break][break][break]he finds himself[break][break] After leaving Honey, Coy sunk into a state of depression. He left his home for long periods of time and only returned when he felt like it. Once time when he was returning after having been gone a week, he found that his father had gone out to search for him and had been hit by a truck out on the road. He found him laying there in shock. The old dog had survived but was barely able to move and was in tremendous agony. Coy was mortified and hated to see him in so much pain, so he dragged him back to the house. His father was taken to the vet and put to sleep. Coy blamed himself after that. He told himself that he could've hidden him away somewhere and nursed him back to health. The husky sunk deeper into desolation and began to question his own life.[break][break] It was a windy day in October when he finally made up his mind. He was going to kill himself. Coy hurried to a lake he often had visited during his days as a pup. It was far off in the forest and would be the perfect place to die, he thought. Once he arrived he found that it wasn't going to be as easy as he'd previously thought it would be. There standing in front of him was a gorgeous, white she-wolf. She was lapping up the lake as though she hadn't had a drink in years. She turned and he took a step back. Coy had never met a wolf before and he especially hadn't been prepared to meet one today. She was much prettier than what he'd expected from a wolf. He greeted her with a trembling voice.[break][break] Turns out the wolf, Akachi, turned him away from all thoughts of suicide and gave him exactly what he'd been looking for all his life. She was a healer in her pack and she taught him her ways day by day. Coy had a new reason to stay away from his household, except this was a good one. Not only did he know how to recognize diseases by scent, but he could heal wounds and make medicine from herbs. || more bio coming soon |
