PERSONALITY Enkidu is an eccentric dog. Yes, I said dog. Despite the bat-like ears, rat-like paws, and complete hairlessness, Enkidu is 100% dog. He doesn't understand why some humans and even some dogs have a hard time believing it. He is a rather intelligent dog. A bit conceited, but luckily not outspoken. He is mellow and more introverted, but friendly when spoken to. Hang around him enough, and you will start to see his eccentricities. He licks himself like a cat and likes to eat fish, for example. He also has a sort of tenderness towards human babies and children. Its a mystery if this would extend to canines pups. When you know Enkidu outside of his work, he is a lazy uninspired dog that seems content spending his whole life doing nothing outside of making sure Harper doesn't die. His soft and big heart for the kid is usually shielded from others to see by his constantly monotone voice and emotionless, deadpan expression. But anyone who listens to him will find that he is anything but dry. Snarky, quick-witted, sarcastic, and sharp tongued, he can either be a riot to be around, a feelings hurter, or downright annoying. Enkidu's lack of fur is made up for by his strange xolo skin, which is all gray aside from the gray-pink inside his ears and on his underbelly. Akin to human skin, if not taken care of or if he isn't maintaining a healthy lifestyle, it will break out in rashes or get pimples. When taken care of properly, it feels as smooth as baby skin. Of course, Harper takes great care of his dog. He has to get washed frequently, so he often smells very fresh with the hint of some natural smell like pine or mint. Never fruity or perfume smells though.

HISTORY Enkidu was born and raised in the Ingenuity Service Development Association for Canines, also known as ISDAC. ISDAC was a program in which dogs credited to be 85-99% hypoallergenic are bred, born, and raised to be service dogs for people who have allergies to animals. The closet percentage, most rare, and most expensive dogs they provide are the virtually hairless variety of the xoloitzcuintli. Enkidu was one of these dogs. He vaguely remembers the few memories he has of his mother and siblings. All of them seemed to be washed away by his training. After 2 years of training and periodic testing, he was then registered as a certified seeing-eye, assistance, and therapy dog. 3 months later, he was given to Harper Blakely. Harper at the time was a 10 year old boy, born to an excessively rich business and socialite family in Manhattan, New York. Since birth, he had been blind and severely afflicted with an autoimmune disease after a virus nearly destroyed his immune system and killed him within the first weeks of his life. Later in life, his sicknesses started to really inhibit him and gave him insomnia.When a therapy and seeing eye dog was first suggested by his pediatrician, his parents were completely against it. Dogs were seen as filthy creatures, and a lot of the people that they were socializing and with had dog allergies. An ISDAC xoloitzcuintli was recommended, and the doctor noted also of their therapeutic attribute that their radiating body heat produces for some sick patients meant he could possibly help Harper go to sleep, it seemed like their parents didn't have a choice. Enkidu was introduced to the family reluctantly, and Harper and Enkidu have been inseparable ever since. Later on in life when Harper's health began to fluctuate, he was moved to the less stressful and fresh air environment of Shorebridge, Georgia where his grandmother lived. While the grandmother understands the importance of Harper's service, she is heavily superstitious and believes that dogs-especially bat eared ones, are evil. Plus...he is weird and hairless. It looks kind of evil. Enkidu is not allowed inside the house before Harper's bedtime unless it is storming of any kind. Because of this, so the two usually spend their days going on long walks, fishing, and taking naps outside. Though, there are some times where the boy has to stay inside and the dog is left to wander around to find something to do for the day. | ||||||||
